Silver lining for Milan in weekend overshadowed by Beckham injury upset

MILAN: Milan’s consolation for the left Achilles injury which has effectively ended David Beckham’s Italian career is having moved within one point of league leaders Internazionale.
At one stage last autumn it appeared that Inter would cruise easily towards a fifth successive Serie A crown. However Inter’s surprise 3-1 defeat at Catania, in a match moved forward to try to help Jose Mourinho’s men ahead of their Chelsea due, dropped them further back towards the pursuing pack.
Milan then edged ever closer with the victory over Chievo provided by a last-minute goal from Dutch midfielder Clarence Seedorf.
Meanwhile, Milan chief executive Adriano Galliani has promised stricken Beckham the club’s full support in his bid to regain fitness after the injury which ended his World Cup dream. Galliani said: “David Beckham will always be welcome here, however it is possible. This club appreciates great professionals.”
