LOS ANGELES - LA 2028 today released a teaser video for its new “Building our Legacy” series that captures memories from athletes and volunteers from the Los Angeles 1984 Olympic Games and builds excitement for the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
The teaser video, narrated by Olympic champion and LA 2028 Athletes’ Advisory Commission member Carl Lewis, was released 33 years to the day since Lewis famously matched Jesse Owens’ record at the 1984 Games, winning his fourth gold medal and setting a new world record in the 4 x 100 m relay.
Walking through the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, Lewis describes his memory of how the 1984 Games brought people together. Like so many who remember the experience of the 1984 Games, Lewis is excited to share the magic of the Games with the next generation in 2028. Lewis says, “I would love to bring my son back, and my grandchildren, to be able to say hey, your grandad ran in this place years ago. I just hope that I can share those moments with them.”
The series will officially launch tomorrow on the anniversary of the 1984 Closing Ceremony. In the upcoming videos Olympians, Paralympians, volunteers, and staff will share their 1984 memories and their excitement about the prospect of making new memories in 2028.
“Building our Legacy” is LA 2028’s fifth video series, adding to “Legends of LA,” “Coming Home,” “Going for Gold,” and the ongoing “What’s Not in the Bid Book” series.
LA 2028 Vice Chair and Director of Athlete Relations Janet Evans said: “Angelenos have powerful memories from our magical 1984 Games, and LA 2028’s ‘Building our Legacy’ video series reflects on the past, but also dreams about the possibilities for the future.
“We at LA 2028 are excited to create our own legacy, which is why we are so excited that our new agreement with the IOC will allow us to increase participation and access to youth sports programs in the City of Los Angeles in the years leading up to the Games.”
