LA 2024 releases new drone aerial footage of proposed Media Village under construction at USC

New 15-acre residential village will house media within walking distance of Main Press Center, Downtown Sports Park competition venues

LOS ANGELES - LA 2024 today released aerial footage taken of its proposed Media Village under construction at the University of Southern California (USC). The new 15-acre residential and retail development, called USC University Village, will offer media, officials and other stakeholders state-of-the-art facilities and unprecedented convenience just a short walk from key venues like the Main Press Center (MPC), the LA Memorial Coliseum (Ceremonies; track-and-field), Dedeaux Field (aquatics) and the Galen Center (badminton).

Slated for completion by August 2017, USC is constructing the $700-million village regardless of the Games to enhance current residential facilities on its stunning Collegiate Gothic-style campus. The residential and retail village will house 3,200 people and offer a grocery, drugstore, fitness center, restaurants, and retail stores.

The Media Village will be a key component of LA 2024’s ‘MPC cluster’. The MPC cluster is anchored by USC’s brand new Annenberg Hall, a five-minute walk from the Media Village, offering members of the media unprecedented convenience, state-of-the-art workroom facilities, and onsite support and catering services. The media Transport Mall will be located within the secure perimeter of this MPC cluster, providing a ‘clean to clean’ experience for media moving between their housing, the MPC and IBC and other secured Olympic sites.

LA 2024’s use of the USC Village is consistent with the bid committee’s low-risk approach of utilizing existing and privately-funded facilities to deliver world-class, sustainable Games.

LA 2024 CEO Gene Sykes said: “LA 2024’s mission is to connect the Olympic and Paralympic Games to the future, and re-engage a generation of Games fans. The world’s media have a key role to play in that, so we are delighted to be able to offer them what we believe is a working environment of unprecedented comfort and convenience.

“LA is blessed with a wealth of existing competition and non-competition venues. State-of-the-art projects like the USC Media Village are what position LA 2024 to deliver an unparalleled Games experience for all stakeholders in the lowest-risk, most sustainable way possible. We believe this approach makes LA 2024 the right choice to enhance the credibility of the Olympic Movement and inspire future bidding cities.”
