LOS ANGELES - LA 2024 today released the fourth and final episode of its “Legends of LA” video series, showcasing The Forum through the eyes of Olympic basketball champion and LA 2024 Vice Chair Earvin “Magic” Johnson and Olympic ice hockey great Wayne Gretzky.

An iconic 1960’s arena that underwent extensive renovations to reopen in 2014, The Forum hosts world-class sports and entertainment events year-round in its 17,500-seat auditorium. The Forum’s rich history has seen it play host to the 1984 Olympic Basketball competition, as well as to the NBA’s LA Lakers and NHL’s LA Kings who called the arena “home” for 32 years. Johnson and Gretzky both played in The Forum professionally, and remark on the venue’s electric atmosphere in the video.

Should LA 2024 be awarded the Games, The Forum would host the Olympic gymnastics competition, furthering LA 2024’s commitment of using best-in-class sport presentation to grow sports in the US $250-billion sports market and worldwide. The arena’s world-class reputation for sport presentation and guest experience is a reflection of LA 2024’s low-risk approach of using existing venues that host state-of-the-art events on a regular basis.

On The Forum’s ability to create the ultimate athlete and fan experiences, Olympic champion and LA 2024 Vice Chair Earvin “Magic” Johnson said: “[The Forum] is going to supply every athlete the energy they need to play at their highest level and at their best. The crowd feels a part of the game, and the athletes feed off that energy from the crowd.”

On The Forum’s Olympic legacy and the Games’ power to inspire the next generation of athletes, Olympic ice hockey great Wayne Gretzky said: “As a child, you’ve got to have dreams and you’ve got to have goals. Olympic athletes are so inspiring to young kids. I don’t think that there’s anything more inspiring than to compete against the greatest athletes in the world, on one stage together. You can’t take away the atmosphere and the history that [The Forum] has.”

The “Legends of LA” video series is the latest reflection of LA 2024’s commitment to connect the Olympic and Paralympic Movements with the next generation by harnessing the power of social media. The other videos in the series featured Olympians Carl Lewis, Kobe Bryant and Cobi Jones reliving their memories of the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, STAPLES Center, and StubHub Center respectively.
