IOC APPOINTS NEW STRATEGIC COMMUNICATIONS DIRECTOR

THE IOC TODAY ANNOUNCED THE APPOINTMENT OF REBECCA LOWELL EDWARDS AS STRATEGIC COMMUNICATIONS DIRECTOR, A NEWLY CREATED ROLE. MRS EDWARDS COMES FROM GE OIL & GAS, WHERE SHE IS CURRENTLY CHIEF COMMUNICATIONS OFFICER.


Raised in Barnstable, Massachusetts, she brings to the role extensive experience in corporate communications, as well as in media and the non-profit sector. She began her career at Dow Jones News Service and was promoted to a reporting job at The Wall Street Journal, before receiving a master’s degree in business administration and becoming a marketing executive at the Journal. She later worked at Ruder Finn, the New York PR firm, rising to Group Senior Vice President. Her non-profit roles include work for the Wallace Foundation, an educational foundation. Mrs Edwards received an undergraduate degree in foreign service from Georgetown University.

Since 2010, she has been working for General Electric, where she began her time as Global Director of Employee Communications, before moving to GE Oil & Gas in London as the Chief Communications Officer in 2013.

IOC Director General Christophe De Kepper welcomed Mrs Edwards. “She will bring a wealth of experience in corporate and not-for-profit communications as well as a keen love of sport. The IOC will benefit from her strategic insight in communicating its mission, vision and values to the public.”

“I'm excited to fuse my professional and personal interests in this role," said Mrs Edwards. "I'm a big believer in the potential for sport to promote peace and progress around the world. That’s especially true now, when there's a tremendous opportunity to raise the volume and impact of more uplifting conversations focused on human development globally."

A keen sportswoman and competitive rower, Mrs Edwards will be relocating from London with her husband and two children.
