"LA 2024 Champions' Playlist" on Apple Music and Spotify celebrates the GRAMMY Awards held at Staples Center, LA 2024 basketball venue in the heart of Games' Downtown Sports Park
LOS ANGELES - LA 2024 celebrated the 59th Annual GRAMMY Awards by releasing a 13-song, athlete-generated music playlist - the LA 2024 Champions’ Playlist - on popular music streaming services Apple Music and Spotify. The playlist is part of LA 2024's February Focus on its plans to harness the city's creativity and entertainment to connect the Olympic movement with young people around the world.
With February marking the culmination of Hollywood's award season, LA 2024 leaders cited the flawlessly run awards ceremony as further proof of Los Angeles’ wealth of experience in hosting world-class events with a global reach on a regular basis. Widely considered the recording industry's most prestigious award ceremony, the GRAMMY Awards were held at the Staples Center at LA Live, LA 2024’s proposed venue for the Olympic basketball competition in 2024. The Staples Center is one of the crown jewels of LA 2024’s Downtown Sports Park, which also features the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, Galen Center, Microsoft Theater and USC’s Dedeaux Baseball Field, the site of LA 2024’s temporary state-of-the-art aquatics facility.
LA 2024 Chairman Casey Wasserman said: “In addition to being the world's best athletes, LA 2024's Athlete Commission Members are great DJs, and their Apple Music and Spotify playlists highlight LA 2024’s commitment to leveraging the latest technologies to activate a brand new generation of Olympic and Paralympic enthusiasts. Here in LA and California, we’re always imagining ‘what’s next.’ LA 2024 is enthusiastic to put that creativity and innovation at the service of the Olympic Movement should we be awarded the honor of hosting the Games in 2024.
“I would also like to congratulate The Recording Academy on another successful and utterly dazzling GRAMMY Awards ceremony. Events like this one, the Golden Globe Awards, and the upcoming Academy Awards show our city's experience when it comes to hosting state-of-the-art events with a global reach on a regular basis. Nobody does show business quite like Hollywood, and LA 2024 is committed to infusing every ounce of our Olympic and Paralympic Games with LA’s trademark storytelling capabilities.”
The LA 2024 Champions’ Playlist is LA 2024’s latest usage of technology and innovation to deliver a low-risk, high-tech Games for the next generation, coming on the heels of the bid committee’s launch of a first-of-its-kind digitally powered Volunteer Service Program last week. LA 2024 also sponsored the LA Hacks hackathon last May, a collaborative computer programming event where more than 1,000 high school and college students were challenged to create hardware and software innovations for sports entertainment, youth engagement and fitness; and, on the eve of the Rio 2016 Games, LA 2024 released an emoji-keyboard app to stimulate engagement and conversation around the Olympic and Paralympic Games.
The LA 2024 Champions' Playlist also follows LA 2024's involvement with the annual "Gold Meets Golden" event, a fixture of the yearly Golden Globe awards weekend, where Olympians including Simone Biles, Nadia Comaneci, Bart Conner and Ashton Easton and Paralympian Candace Cable joined Nicole Kidman, Cuba Gooding Jr, Christian Slater, Sarah Paulson, Naomi Campbell and other Hollywood stars on the red carpet, showing how LA can bring entertainment, popular culture and sport together to connect the Olympic Movement with the next generation.
