LOS ANGELES - LA 2024 today announced the appointments of Marla Messing as Vice President and Executive Director of Sport Leader Relations and Peter Tomozawa as Vice President and Executive Director for Partnerships and Board Relations. Formerly the President and CEO of the 1999 FIFA Women's World Cup, Messing will manage relationships with domestic Olympic and Paralympic stakeholders, including national governing bodies and American sports leaders. Messing will also work closely with leading LA and California tech innovators, ensuring their integration into LA's plans to deliver a new Games for a new era. Tomozawa, formerly Executive Director of Business Development for Honolulu Mayor Kirk Caldwell, will manage relationships with institutional partners and board members as LA 2024 refines its low-risk, high-tech and sustainable Games plan.

Prior to leading the 1999 FIFA Women's World Cup, which was for more than 15 years the largest women's sporting event in history based upon attendance and worldwide television viewership, Messing served as Executive Vice President of the 1994 FIFA World Cup. Messing also served on the original five-person management team that conceived and launched Major League Soccer, where she served as Senior Vice President. Messing holds a B.A. from the University of Michigan and a J.D. from the University of Chicago Law School.

As an advisor to the Mayor of the City and County of Honolulu, Tomozawa negotiated an agreement governing financing for a $6 billion rail project, selected vendors for the city's short term borrowing and helped administer its Park Improvement Plan. Tomozawa previously served as a partner and head of foreign exchange sales at Goldman Sachs, where he worked for 17 years. Currently, Tomozawa is on the Board of North Capital Investment Technology, Nature Conservancy, State of Hawaii Red Cross, and previously served as State of Hawaii Charter School Commission Vice Chair. He received his B.A. from the University of Michigan and M.B.A. from the University of Pennsylvania Wharton School.
