PyeongChang 2018 Announces LEE Moon-tae as Executive Artistic Director for Opening and Closing Ceremonies of PyeongChang 2018 Paralympic Winter Games

SEOUL, May15 - The PyeongChang Organizing Committee for the 2018 Olympic & Paralympic Winter Games (POCOG, President Yang-Ho Cho) announces that it has selected Mr. LEE Moon-tae, currently President of Korean Traditional Performing Arts Foundation as Executive Artistic Director for Opening and Closing Ceremonies of the PyeongChang 2018 Paralympic Winter Games.

Mr. Lee has had produced and directed entertainment programs at KBS(Korean Broadcasting System), the largest TV broadcaster in Korea for over 30 years, and also served at the Seoul Society for Rehabilitation of Persons with Disabilities.

His expertise in television broadcasting, performance directing and strong understanding of the impaired were highly received by the Selecting Committee. The Selecting Committee comprised of International Consulting Committee members (Don Mischer, David Atkins, Konstantin Ernst and Sidney Kimme) commented, "Mr. Lee has a very strong understanding and sensitivity to the special needs and issues of the Paralympics. And he has the ability to use technology and stadium space very well."

POCOG had screened candidates for both the Olympic and Paralympic Games, intending to announce the Executive Artistic Director for each Games at the same time, but finally determined that none of the Olympic ceremonies candidates satisfied the wanted requirements. More consideration will be given to choose the most capable person to orchestrate the Olympic Games' ceremonies.
