Olympic Champion Alpine Skier Lindsey Vonn Named 1st International Games Ambassador for the PyeongChang 2018 Winter Games

SEOUL, May 6 - The PyeongChang Organizing Committee for the 2018 Olympic & Paralympic Winter Games (POCOG, President Yang-Ho Cho) appointed world renowned gold medal Alpine skiing Olympian Lindsey Vonn as the 1st international PyeongChang 2018 Games Ambassador on May 6th, in Seoul, Korea.

Lindsey Vonn is recognized as the most successful female ski racer in the world and has had ranked No. 1 at Women's downhill for six years, from 2008 to 2013.

In addition to her 2010 Olympic downhill gold and Super-G bronze, she holds five World Championships medals, including double gold in 2009. Though she has suffered from accidents and injuries, in her 2014 comeback year, Vonn proved to everyone that she's back and better than ever by claiming the all-time World Cup wins record of 63 wins and extending that total to 67 by season's end. She's now ranked No.1 at Women's downhill and No.2 at Super G. Vonn is beloved by World Ski fans for her determination and stamina and is very active participating in culture, arts, and humanitarian activities. She has her own Lindsey Vonn Foundation strengthening her local community by giving individual attention to the empowerment of girls.

The Minnesota native is also a regular on "Most Marketable" athlete lists and played a major role in NBC's Today Show coverage of the Sochi Olympics by hosting her own segments and providing analysis from the NYC studios.

During the appointment ceremony, Vonn said, "I'm very proud and honored to be an ambassador for the PyeongChang 2018 Olympics. It's been a great trip to Korea so far. We were able to look at the (alpine skiing) venue yesterday and everything is coming on very well. PyeongChang 2018 is doing a great job in the preparations, so I look forward to the test events coming up in the next two years and the Olympics. ".

Yang-Ho Cho, POCOG president, stated, "I am very happy to name Lindsey Vonn as 1st international Games Ambassador for PyeongChang 2018. She is a very famous, well-known worldclass ski racer, but what I really admire about her is her passion and fearless spirit. We believe that she will truly be an excellent Ambassador promoting the PyeongChang 2018 Games to the world."

On May 5th, the day before the appointment ceremony, Vonn had an opportunity to see the construction in progress of Jeongseon Alpine Centre and view the venue where she is planning on competing in 3-years' time. She was also briefed on the preparations for the Games.
