Seoul, February 6, 2015 - The PyeongChang Organizing Committee for the 2018 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games (POCOG) announced today that former Olympian LEE Kyou Hyuk will be the next Games Ambassador for POCOG.

LEE Kyou Hyuk, often referred to as the "living legend of Korean speed skating," will be formally appointed during POCOG's "3-years to go" event which will be held in PyeongChang on Monday, February 9.  He will be the 7th Games Ambassador for PyeongChang 2018.

First becoming a member of South Korea's national team at the age of 15, LEE stayed on the team for 23 years and competed in six consecutive Olympic Winter Games, from Lillehammer 1994 to Sochi 2014.  LEE grew up in a skating family.  Both parents represented the country in international competitions for speed skating and figure skating respectively, and his younger brother also participated in two Winter Games (Nagano 1998 and Salt Lake City 2002) as a member of the national figure staking team.

During his career, LEE set two world records and stood at the top of the podium in 30 international competitions.  He is one of only four athletes who have managed to win the ISU Sprint Championships four times.

LEE was also an Ambassador for the PyeongChang 2018 Bid Committee and is currently a member of the POCOG Athletes Committee since 2013.  Having retired after Sochi 2014, he is now a speed skating coach and commentator, and also appears on sports-related television shows.
