CHUNCHEON, GANGWON - On Friday, April 11, Gangwon Province, where the host and venue cities of the 2018 Winter Games are located, held a ceremony to officially raise the Olympic and Paralympic Flags in front of the Gangwon Provincial Government building.

The event was attended by more than 500 people, including Korea's sports industry experts and officials, as well as athletes and other Games stakeholders. The 2018 Winter Games host city, PyeongChang, and two other venue cities, namely Gangneung and Jeongseon were also represented at the hour-long event.

Two-time Olympic champion, speed skater LEE Sang-hwa, and JUNG Seung-hwan, a member of the national ice sledge hockey team, helped hoist the flags with the Olympic Anthem playing in the background.

The ceremony was concluded after a session where everyone in attendance shouted out slogans in unison, pledging a successful delivery of the 2018 Games in PyeongChang.

The PyeongChang Organizing Committee for the Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games (POCOG) will host the XXIII edition of the Olympic Winter Games on 9-25 February 2018. Over 80 countries and 6,000 athletes are expected to take part in the first Olympic Winter Games to be held in Asia in 20 years.

Seven sports comprising 15 disciplines will be on the official programme.
The PyeongChang 2018 Paralympic Winter Games will take place on 9-18 March 2018, with approximately 50 countries and 690 athletes competing. Five sports are on the Paralympic programme.
