PyeongChang 2018 President Kim Meets Visiting Sebastian Coe

SEOUL - On Tuesday, March 25, President Jin-sun Kim of the PyeongChang Organizing Committee for the 2018 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games (POCOG) welcomed visiting Chairman of the British Olympic Association (BOA) Sebastian Coe, who is also the former chairman of the London Organizing Committee.

During the hour-long meeting, President Kim acknowledged London’s success in achieving Full Stadia through active public engagement, as well as creating an environmentally-friendly atmosphere and participant-oriented operation of the Games. He added that PyeongChang will thoroughly study London’s case and apply any good examples to its operational planning.

President Kim also explained how PyeongChang will be only one hour away from the metropolitan Seoul area by train during Games Time, when the on-going construction of high-speed railway is completed. He stressed that this has a lot of potential to become PyeongChang’s success factor in terms of engaging more people to the Games.

Meanwhile, BOA Chairman Coe spoke highly of PyeongChang’s preparation efforts, especially its determination to deliver the bid commitments that were presented in Durban three years ago. The former LOCOG chief also promised to lend support and advice to POCOG for a successful hosting of the 2018 Games in PyeongChang.

Coe was in Seoul for two days from Monday, in his capacity of the UK’s Olympics legacy ambassador.
