PyeongChang 2018 Artistic Segment at the Closing Ceremony of the Sochi 2014 Paralympic Winter Games

SOCHI - The Handover Ceremony and cultural performance of the PyeongChang 2018 Paralympic Winter Games will take place on March 16th during the Sochi 2014 Paralympic Winter Games Closing Ceremony.

POCOG President Kim J.S. said, "PyeongChang will give an exciting performance that brings the world together under the theme 'A Journey Together.' The performance will embody PyeongChang's aspiration to walk hand in hand with the world to realize 'New Horizons', PyeongChang's vision."

The theme of Act 1 of the artistic segment is 'Harmony and Unity of PyeongChang,' followed by Act 2, 'Fun for Everyone in PyeongChang.' Both disabled and non-disabled artists will come together to stage an inspiring performance of harmony and unity. The Korean performers include SEOK Chang-woo, an artist with prosthetic arms, opera singers CHOI Seungwon (from Gangneung, ice venue city), CHA Myung-yun (visually-impaired), classical musician Song So-hee, sports dancer Kim Hong-in (hearing-impaired), wheelchair performer Kim Nam-jae and vocalists Lee A-reum (visually-impared) and Park Jae-jung.

The participation of disabled artists who have passionately worked to overcome disabilities in order to rise above limitations is especially meaningful because it is in line with the vision and values of the Paralympic Games.

Just as with the Olympic Games, YOON Ho-jin will be in charge of the performance as executive director. He is accompanied by an extraordinary production team which includes choreography director KIM Yeong-ju, music director CHO Yong-wook, costume director LIM Seon-ok, art director LIM Chung-il and video director BAE Il-hwan.

Gangwon Performing Arts Company, the Korean local provincial performing arts group which was lauded for its outstanding performances at PyeongChang House during the Sochi Olympic Games, will take center stage. The segment also features a wheelchair performance group and sports dance group.

The song 'Dream of PyeongChang', which has been the theme song for PyeongChang 2018 from its bid phase will be sung by soprano CHA Myung-yun, who overcame visual impairment to realize her dreams as a singer. She will be joined by LEE A-reum, who is also a visually impaired vocalist who focuses intensely on her dreams and is able to read people's feelings, and PARK Jae-jung, who was the winner of the 2013 Superstar K5 competition, as well as the Gangneung Boy's and Girl's Choir.
