RECONSTRUCTION OF KEY ISTANBUL 2020 VENUE TO START AFTER FAREWELL CONCERT

Istanbul 2020 to benefit from new state-of-the-art ?nönü Stadium

Istanbul; 27 July 2013: Iron Maiden performed in front of tens of thousands of fans at the BJK İnönü Stadium last night in the last concert before construction begins on a brand new, state-of-the-art stadium which will provide a spectacular venue for rugby sevens if Istanbul is awarded the Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2020.

The new world-class stadium will be built 23 metres north of the current site and will be positioned perfectly to maximise the dramatic views across the Bosphorus. With a projected capacity of over 40,000 seats, the new stadium will provide the ultimate spectator-experience for fans in 2020 who will be able to watch elite athletic performance, set against Istanbul’s breathtaking backdrop.

The Times of London named the legendary arena in its Top 10 stadiums of the world, primarily due to its spectacular location. Now that location will be combined with modern, cutting edge facilities - the perfect environment to help inspire athletes to new heights of performance. Looking over the Bosphorus, the stadium in 2020 will give rugby players the chance of an inter-continental conversion as they kick for goal from Europe towards Asia.

The stadium is set to be completed by October 2014.
