IPC holds PyeongChang 2018 Project Review

With five years to go until the PyeongChang 2018 Paralympic Winter Games, preparations are gaining momentum.

The International Paralympic Committee (IPC) staged the first Project Review with the PyeongChang 2018 Organising Committee (POCOG) from 27-28 February.

A team from the IPC, headed up by IPC CEO Xavier Gonzalez, Paralympic Games Integration Director Thanos Kostopoulos and Commercial and Marketing Director Alexis Schaefer met with a delegation from POCOG led by President and CEO Kim Jin-sun and Vice President and Secretary General Dong Hoo Moon.

The review, which lasted a day and a half, covered a range of topics including observations from the London 2012 Paralympic Games, the organising committee structure, the Games Foundation Plan, sport, accessibility, venues and infrastructure, marketing, broadcasting and communications.

The development of the PyeongChang 2018 Paralympic emblem was also discussed in a side meeting.

IPC CEO Xavier Gonzalez said: “It is exciting to see how much the preparations for the PyeongChang 2018 Paralympic Winter Games have come along in the past year. We’ve had very productive and open discussions and are very pleased with the quality of the organising committee team. We look forward to working together towards a very successful Paralympic Winter Games in 2018”

The PyeongChang 2018 Paralympic Winter Games will take place from 9-18 March 2018.
