Cancelation of 2012 Hong Kong Masters show jumping tournament forces an end to documentary funding initiative
Cancelation of Asia's first 5-star international equestrian competition has forced filmmakers to end to an on-line campaign for documentary production funding.
Due to the cancelation of the 2012 Hong Kong Masters show jumping tournament, SportsQuest International has ended an on-line funding campaign focused on the event. The initiative sought to bring about the creation of broadcast quality content examining global sport, culture and commerce - through the prism of Asia's first 5-star international equestrian competition.
Hosted by Kickstarter.com, China Welcomes The World: The 2012 Hong Kong Masters, was created to provide production phase funding covering the costs of transportation, lodging, equipment rentals and various professional fees.
Participation levels ranged from US $1.00 upward, with attractive rewards available to all backers.
The inaugural Hong Kong Masters competition was to have run March 1 - 3, 2012 at the AsiaWorld-Expo, proximate to the Hong Kong International Airport. Prize money for the event was to have been US $1,000,000 (approximately 7.8 million Hong Kong Dollars). As reported by Alvin Sallay in the February 5th edition of the South China Morning Post, organizers have postponed the event until early 2013, in an effort "to
educate the public about showjumping and create more awareness."
