SportAccord Forms Strategic Alliance with Women Win



Cape Town, South Africa (6 December 2011) - Today SportAccord, the umbrella organisation for both Olympic and non-Olympic sport federations, and Women Win, a global organisation working to advance girls’ rights through sport, announced their strategic alliance at the Beyond Sport Summit. SportAccord recognises the growing interest of its members in addressing gender in sport, and implementing a gender-specific approach to sport development. As an expert in the field of sport and women’s rights, Women Win will provide SportAccord with knowledge, tools and best practices around gender.
One of SportAccord’s main objectives is to support its members through the provision of services and expertise in areas of common concern and importance. Through this partnership with Women Win, SportAccord will be able to provide expertise in designing, developing and implementing high quality sport programmes for girls and women. Women Win will assist in the mapping of sport, gender policies and programmes of SportAccord members. In addition, Women Win will provide toolkits, curricula and training material to support the process of providing safe spaces for girls and women to participate in sport.
Women Win Founder and President, Astrid Aafjes adds, “Through our partnership with SportAccord, Women Win can stimulate gender mainstreaming within sport federations, and scale high quality sport programming for girls and women around the globe.”
