Freyja Prentice & Lydia Rosling (GBR) have stormed to the Women’s Junior World Championships Relay gold in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

The British girls , who both won gold in the Women's teams event on Saturday produced one of the great combined event to move up from 5th position to steal the gold from the German pair of Janie Kohlmann & Annika Schleu who had to settle for silver.

The talented team of Adrienn Toth & Zsofia Foldhazi (HUN) held off a fast finishing American team to win bronze.

The British team, including individual bronze medallist Prentice thought their dreams of gold had vanished after finishing in 6th position in both the fencing and swimming to be well of the pace set by the Ukrainian team of Anastasiya Spas and Ganna Buriak after 2 events.

A solid, yet unspectacular ride of 1148 points gave the Brits a glimmer of hope heading into the combined event. With the pressure lifted off the girls, they were able to compete care free in the combined event and it showed.

The 21 year olds competing in their last Junior World Championships posted the fastest time in the combined event by an astonishing 17 seconds to overtake the German team on the final lap to finish their junior careers on the ultimate golden high.

“I’m very happy that we could end the championships like this,” said Prentice, who crossed the finish line to take gold. “The Germans, Hungarians, Russians and Ukrainians all had good teams in the relay today and we knew they wouldn’t be easy to beat.

“We were always near the top but never quite in front today and that took the pressure off us. We kept our heads down and it paid off.

This gold capped a dream Championships for Great Britain, walking away with 3 gold medals and one bronze.

“Jamie’s gold made the competition. It was amazing to get an individual gold,” she added. “We couldn’t have asked for a better championships - it’s been amazing."
