Media Powerhouses Team Up for 2012

(Atlanta / Beijing) - Around the Rings and Tencent on Thursday announced a strategic partnership to cover the 2012 Olympic Games in London.

Around the Rings, now in its 20th year, is widely recognized as the world's leading publication specializing in Olympic news. Tencent is China's largest web portal.

The new partners will share content, contacts, ideas and staff, including Tencent's star sports reporter Norman Li. He will travel to ATR headquarters in Atlanta regularly to liaise with top editors in the months leading up to the Games.

Tencent will also translate ATR stories into Chinese, content that will then be available to millions more Olympic fans in China found at http://sports.qq.com/zt2011/atr/.

"We are thrilled that China's largest web portal recognizes the quality of our coverage and chooses to build its Olympic strategy around it," said ATR Publisher Sheila Scott Hula.

"London 2012 will be the first digital Games, and Tencent and Around the Rings are poised to dominate Olympic news via website, email, mobile app and - of course - Twitter and QQ Weibo."

"Cooperating with Around the Rings will be one of the key steps in our Olympic strategies," said Tencent Deputy Sports Director Silvia Chen.

"Our Chinese readers will have a chance to get access to inside information on the Olympic Movement."

Founded in 1998, Tencent provides Internet, mobile and telecom services as well as online advertising to upwards of 700 million users. Among its leading platforms are QQ Instant Messenger, QQ.com, QQ Weibo, QQ Games, Qzone, 3g.QQ.com, SoSo, PaiPai, Tenpay and Tencent Weibo.

ATR Editor Ed Hula said, "China hosted the 2008 Olympics and will host the 2014 Youth Olympic Games. It is also home to one of the world's most important Olympic teams. This partnership will enable Around the Rings to bring its readers more insightful coverage of Chinese sport."
