Esteban Bustos (CHI) has kept Olympic qualification in the family be matching his older brother Cristian’s feat from 4 years ago to qualify for the 2012 London Olympic Games.

The World #66 secured his Olympic qualification with an impressive bronze medal performance at the Pan American Championships which was his best international result, just when it mattered. Unfortunately his brother Cristian did not fare as well as his younger brother finishing back in 17th.

UIPM media caught up with Esteban to discuss his medal and Olympic qualification:

How does it feel to win Bronze at such a big event?

It was one of the greatest joys of my life. I am grateful to my coach Gerardo Cortes who has been with me since I was 12 I am also proud to bring this medal to my country which was very difficult to achieve because all athletes were very strong.

What was the key to winning the bronze medal?

To get a result like this in Pentathlon you have to excel in all of the 5 events. I think that was the key to victory as I did very well all day.

How does it feel to be qualified for the London Olympics?

To go to the Olympics has been the dream of my life. I have been working very hard to make this dream come true. I am very excited to compete in the world biggest event. I think that every pentathlete goal is to compete the Olympics and I am proud to be the ninth person from Chile to qualify for the London Olympics.

What’s your plans for the next 9 months before London?

Now I have a week vacation with my coach and then begin to work as hard as we did for Guadalajara to arrive in perfect condition at the Olympics. I plan to compete in several World Cups to get more experience, as I am only 18 years old, I don’t have much yet!
