Editors’ Notes:
Asia-Pacific Sports Conference 2011
Over the past decade, the Asia-Pacific region has developed into a busy commercial centre, and the sports industry has played an ever-increasing role in the region’s economic growth as well as influencing Asian culture and lifestyle. Governments recognise the power of sports to create economic, political, social and cultural benefits and, thus, Asian countries have become major bidders for hosting and staging major sports events. This huge trend in shifting sports events and series to the East means there is ultimately more and more opportunity in sports. Some of the biggest sponsorship deals are coming out of Asia.

The Asia-Pacific Sports Conference will take place over two days in September in Singapore and will cover the critical challenges and opportunities in hosting sports events in the region. Delegates can learn from high-profile international and regional leaders experienced in managing sports events in the Asia-Pacific region, addressing key topics such as:

• A summary and analysis of the Asia-Pacific sports event market: big opportunities in a fast developing market.
• Current status and future prospects for the sports industry: country updates
• Sports tourism: bringing economic prosperity to your country through successful sports event management
• Implementing strategies after winning the bid
• Involving government and stakeholders early
• Sustaining sports stadiums and venues and meeting the demands of sponsors and media
• Sponsorship: convincing sponsors that sports events ensure a positive return
• The powerful effect of social media: innovative and creative ways to engage with consumers
• Exceeding expectations and enhancing spectator experience
• Attracting media coverage to boost international standing and drive popularity of the sport
• Creating a legacy and attracting investment after the event
