Athletes qualified for Istanbul Archery World Cup Final after Stage 4 in Shanghai
Decisive, qualifying event for the Archery World Cup Final in Istanbul on 24-25 September, the fourth stage of the Archery World Cup 2011 took place in Shanghai last week.
The finals of the Archery World Cup Stage 4 in Shanghai were held on the River Boulevard Pudong Shanghai on Saturday, 10 September 2011. The recurve division competed in the morning, while compound shot in the afternoon.
A new US archer is on the rise. After winning two medals at World Cup Stage 3 in Odgen last month, Joe FANCHIN (USA) won the recurve men's individual and team gold last weekend in Shanghai! The young Inna STEPANOVA (RUS) also won her first World Cup event in recurve women.
In the team events, led by reigning World Cup Final champion Brady ELLISON and new rising star Joe FANCHIN, team USA proved too strong for Malaysia and clinched the recurve men's gold. On the female side, India excelled Italy for the title.
ELLISON added another gold medal to his already long achievements list in the recurve mixed team competition. Paired with Khatuna LORIG, he defeated the Japanese double in the final.
On the Shanghai riverside, Reo WILDE (USA) shot a perfect 150 in his compound men’s final. He also won a team gold and came back strongly in the Longines Prize for Precision. Jamie VAN NATTA (USA) won in compound women.
The American compound men's team have remained undefeated in the World Cup and World Championships this season after another win over India in the gold final in Shanghai. On the women's side, USA also clinched gold after a final win over Russia.
The compound mixed team gold medal was won by the pair of Mexico. Competing in a World Cup Stage final for the first time, the Mexicans defeated the French double.
The Shanghai World Cup Stage put an end at the race for qualifying places for the Istanbul final at the end of the month. Based on the top three results of the four stages, the top 7 archers of the season per category (with a maximum of two archers per country) qualified for the Archery World Cup Final. They will be joined by one competitor from the host country, Turkey, in each of the four categories:
