Lena Schoneborn (GER) has continued her strong vein of form to claim her maiden European crown in Medway, Great Britain.

Schoneborn ran down Adrienn Toth (HUN) who claimed silver in the final 1000 meters to add European Champion to her impressive title list. Victoria Tereshuk stormed past her opponents in the final running leg to snatch bronze.

Schoneborn started the day well by finishing 2nd in the fencing behind silver medalist Toth. A 13th placed finish in the swim together with her 1120 points in the ride meant she started 3rd in the combined event which she won purely on her strong running.

The Olympic Champion stated: “This was a really hard event, I almost lost it in the ride and I’m glad I didn’t. I was confident that I could out run all the other girls, so I knew if I could shoot well the gold was mine. I am ecstatic to have finally won a European Championships.”

“I am extremely happy” said the 2007 World Junior Champion Toth. “At the start of the day, I was just planning to get into the top 8 to qualify for the Olympic Games. However on the back of my win in the fencing, I knew I had a chance to do it. I enjoyed every minute of the day, getting my 1st international medal is a dream.

Bronze medalist Tereshuk who also won bronze at the 2008 Olympic stated: “I am very happy to secure Olympic qualification. It is an added bonus for me to get the bronze medal here. I was so determined on the final 1000 to get that medal and so happy that I did it.”
