Media Negativity Surrounding Arsenal FC is Unfounded
Arsenal Fans Should Be More Positive Towards Their Teams' Future Than The Press Appear To Be.
Much of the negative press aimed at Arsenal in recent days has shown the British media at its hyperbolic best. Criticism is fair enough, in fact its a necessary device in all areas of life, but the cynical, hysterical campaigns by certain news outlets are almost laughable.
The increasingly vast sums of money flooding into the Premier League have obviously intensified the circus surrounding the counties' largest footballing institutions. But however bleak the media's perception is of Arsenal, one factor above all others must be kept in mind - Arséne Wenger.
The French manager had seen it and heard it all many times before some of his detractors could even walk. History shows that when the chips are down and his team is having its eulogy chanted by one and all, he digs deep and finds the answers.
Transfer activity is beginning to heighten with players edging closer to exits, and credible reports of real movement on at least two incoming targets continue to gather momentum. Despite what you may read, the squad is almost there. Even with the departure of Fábregas looming, there is reason to feel positive especially if Juan Mata is acquired by the club. Ramsey, Nasri, Arshavin, Gervinho, Walcott, Miyaichi, Rosicky and Wilshere already have enough attacking talent between them for the midfield to cope with the loss of the captain, even if injuries do start to mount.
Although there is a long way to go until the end of the transfer window and it's almost certain that one if not two defenders will be added to the squad by then, the season starts in just over two weeks, so maybe one criticism is the failure of Wenger to have already purchased at least one centre-back in order for as much time as possible to be dedicated to their integration into the defensive unit. It must be said that Arsenal have to hit the ground running this season more so than in any other.
Movement in the market does seems slow but it's worth remembering that the administration for these deals is beyond bureaucratic nowadays, so patience will hopefully be rewarded for Arsenal fans, who should have faith that preparations in training are going as smoothly as they often have in the past, considering Wenger's boasts an impressive record for early season form in the Premier League. Also worth noting is the fact that Arsenal have a much better record of success when no major summer tournament has preceded their season.
The element that could inspire Wenger more than any other year is that maybe this time, for the first time, his job is on the line. Wouldn't it be just like 'Le Boss' and his team to come out in such resolute and belligerent way that even the most loyal fans would be surprised? I'm not saying that Arsenal will win the league next season, but suggestions that the Gunners will struggle to make 5th place are way wide of the mark. If the coming 10 days or so are positive in terms of Emirates Cup success and some further squad tinkering, a strong Arsenal title challenge could well, contrary to popular belief, be forthcoming.
