New iSportconnect Expert Column - Marcin Herra: Euro 2012 - A test of organisation and public engagement

In his latest regular column, Marcin Herra reveals exclusively for iSportconnect the role of the Polish people before and during the tournament.

Mr Herra discusses how they have a huge role to play in relation to the legacy of tourism after the twenty three day tournament. Within this operation, new technology, innovations as well as a unique card will be in place for visitors to the Eastern European country.

The Chairman of Poland 2012 explains how the most important match played in the tournament will not involve a football or be played in a stadium.

“Poland’s and Poles’ international image will be at stake in this match. The players that will lead us to victory in this match will be top quality organisation of the Tournament in terms of security, medical care, transport, information and public engagement.”

The reputation of a city/country/continent is on the line when they play host to a large event and this is no different.

“All Poles will play Euro 2012, because in fact we are all hosts of this Tournament.”

Mr Herra explains in-depth how every piece of the puzzle needs to be in place and how every stakeholder from the country, from the three thousand volunteers to Teresa, a shop assistant, is equally important in the tournament’s success.

A unique innovation for visitors will be the ‘Polish Pass’.

“Fans in their own countries will be able to use the internet to book a hotel, purchase health insurance, buy tickets for municipal transport, intercity transport and even airline tickets for flights between Poland and Ukraine.”

The Pass will be one document giving the visitors much more comfort and safety during their stay.

“The most important actions in the last year of preparation to Euro 2012 are the organisational projects by public authorities, as well as building public awareness that for the 23 days of June 2012 everyone will be a host.”
