Double Olympic Bronze Medalist Walter Dix added to Halifax and Toronto NTL line-ups

The Toronto International Track & Field Games is pleased to announce that American sprinter, double Olympic bronze medalist over 100m and 200m, Walter Dix is coming to Canada to compete.

Ottawa, Ont., - The Aileen Meagher International Classic in Halifax, N.S., and the 2011 Toronto International Track and Field Games in Toronto, Ont., have added American sprinter Walter Dix to their respective 100-metre fields. Dix, double bronze medalist at the 2008 Olympic Games, is excited about returning to Canada to chase Usain Bolt’s Varsity Centre stadium record of 10.00 set in 2009 at the Festival of Excellence.  The Florida native raced in, and won, the 100-metres at last year’s Aileen Meagher. 

Dix was the only American track athlete to win two individual medals at the 2008 Olympics Games.  He’s looking to use the races in Halifax and Toronto as important preparations for the 2011 World Championships in Daegu, Korea.  Dix missed qualifying for the 2009 World Championships due to an injury suffered at the US Trials.

Dix will line up against Canada’s fastest men including current NTL 100-metre points leader Justyn Warner of Markham, Ont., and NTL 200-metre points leader Bryan Barnett of Edmonton, Alta.  Both Warner and Barnett are medalists from the 2006 World Junior Championships.
