World's Best Pentathletes Arrive in London for the World Cup Final

The most eagerly anticipated Modern Pentathlon event so far this year, the World Cup Final is being held in London, Great Britain on 9-10 July 2011.

Athletes have travelled to USA, Italy, Hungary and China in order to gain enough valuable World Cup Series points to be one of the 36 athletes who have the honour to line up this weekend in London.
The World Cup Final takes on additional significance this year as it serves as a qualification event for the 2012 London Olympic Games. The Men's and Women's Champion have the privilege of direct qualification into next year's premiere event. In addition, the event will also act as an Olympic test event for the 2012 Games which will test facilities, procedures, staff and timings.
The fencing and swimming disciplines will be held at Crystal Palace, the facilities used for the successful 2009 World Championships. The riding and combined event will take place in the historic Greenwich Park which has been transformed into a World Class sporting facility in the space of a few weeks. This is not only where the 2011 World Cup Final Champion will be crowned, but also the Olympic Champion in August 2012.
UIPM Secretary General Joël Bouzou: "UIPM is very excited about the World Cup Final being held at the picturesque Greenwich Park. This will be a historical event for our sport as it will be the 1st time that athletes will be shooting facing the crowd with their laser pistols. This will give the spectators the opportunity to see the pure emotion on the faces of the athletes during the combined event. We are confident that all the tests being conducted for the 2012 Olympic Games will be successful and we will have an event to remember."
Defending World Cup Final Champion Adam Marosi (HUN)  will be looking for another World Cup Final gold medal in London which would not only secure him a place into his 1st Olympic Games, but also a return to the World #1 position he cherishes. This will not be easy for Marosi as he will have to beat the form athletes of 2011 David Svoboda (CZE) and Pavlo Tymoshchenko (UKR).
The 2 women who have won the past 3 World Cup Final's Olympic Champion Lena Schoneborn (GER) and Donata Rimsaite (RUS) will be firm favourites for the title with triple World Champion Amelie Caze (FRA) succumbing to injury and will not make the trip to London. The 3 have dominated the sport for the past 2 years, however there are signs of a new order coming through with young guns Aya Medany (EGY) and Ekaterina Khuraskina (RUS) winning World Cup 3 & 4 respectively.
The patriotic British public will be out in force for the sell-out event hoping to cheer on the British team onto the podium. They will like their chances of this happening as the British women have dominated this World Cup Series having a women on every podium this year with Mhairi Spence already having 2 medals to her name after her silver at World Cup 1 and bronze at World Cup 2.
Jamie Cooke is the best bet from the British men after their highest ranked athlete Sam Weale failed to qualify. After a breakthrough 2011 series, Cooke, who holds the Pentathlon swimming World record will appear in his first World Cup Final and will want a strong performance to edge him closer to a birth in the Olympic team for a dream home games.
Fans around the world will have the chance to watch these, and other great athletes and share in the excitement of Modern Pentathlon. The UIPM will broadcast the finals live on Pentathlon TV @ on 9 & 10 2011.  The broadcast will feature highlights of the fencing and swimming events as well as live coverage of the riding and combined event.
