ANNECY 2018 AT THE FRENCH LYCEE IN LOME
Charles Beigbeder and Jean-Pierre Vidal, respectively President and Vice-president of Annecy 2018, visited the French Lycée in Lomé this Wednesday 29th June 2011 to promote the educational programme of the French bid to host
They were in Africa to share their vision of authentic Games in the heart of the mountains, with the athletes and for the future.
The Annecy 2018 representatives were accompanied by the French Ambassador to Togo, Dominique Renaux, Anne-Marie Descôtes, Director of the Agency for French Teaching Abroad (AEFE) and Laurent Petrynka, Director of the French National Union for School Sport (UNSS).
With sport and cultural workshops as well as meetings between young people and top-flight athletes, this was a day to celebrate sport and the Olympic Spirit. It was also an opportunity to present the Annecy 2018 educational programme and in particular the DVD and book "Education and the Olympic Spirit: from pole to pole" which can be downloaded from French Ministry of Education and AEFE websites.
AEFE and UNSS completed the day by formalising their new relationship with the signature of a partnership agreement.

"It was a great experience for us today to meet with some wonderful young people and share in their passion for sport. Annecy 2018 has a powerful and genuine desire to share its vision with the youth, so it is only right for us to promote our educational programme here in Lomé, at the General Assembly and thirtieth anniversary of the Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa. The values of the Olympic Movement must be shared, and we are determined to contribute to their development amongst young people all over the world. I would like to thank the people here for taking the time to meet with us."
Jean-Pierre Vidal also took the opportunity to highlight some points from Annecy 2018's "sustainable development" programme.

It is our ambition to present a new model for hosting major, global sporting events… For us this will be an opportunity to promote numerous innovations, particularly for managing resources. One of our greatest challenges is to draw attention to the absolute requirement for the concerted and calculated management of water resources.
The bid representatives were able to congratulate AEFE on their "lycées du grand large (lycées set sail)" initiative, pointing out that for Annecy 2018 the Olympic Torch Relay would begin from the oceans and seas before travelling up rivers and watercourses to arrive, as a symbol, in Annecy, on the shores of the purest lake in Europe, at the foot of Mont-Blanc.
