MUNICH 2018'S 'STARS, THE WINTER GAMES AND YOU!' FESTIVAL
Electrifying atmosphere gives taste of Festival of Friendship spirit as 25,000 fans look to ‘Achieve something great together’
Munich, 11 June 2011: Munich 2018 and national sponsor Allianz SE today staged 'Stars, the Winter Games and You!' - a spectacular celebration of Bavaria's passion for winter sports at Munich's iconic Allianz Arena.
The event brought together 40 world-famous sports ambassadors, over 800 young athletes, and seven international performance artists for eight hours of family entertainment. 25,000 fans attended, and the national broadcast had an audience of millions. The figures are impressive, but it was the buzz that filled the stadium from start to finish that gave the clearest insight into the unforgettable atmosphere Munich 2018 guarantees at every single event. The festival's slogan - 'Achieve something great together' - encapsulated Bavaria's collective dream of hosting the Winter Games and the Festival of Friendship spirit that will raise its celebration to a new plateau.
Bernhard Schwank, Munich 2018 CEO, emphasised exactly what the event said about the Bavarian capital's bid:
'Today we demonstrated what we can achieve here in Germany. The corporate world, every level of government and the sports community are all working hand in hand to realise our vision of a Festival of Friendship in 2018.'
Cassandra Steen, Germany's most famous soul singer, added: 'A great show and a fantastic crowd. You could really feel the Olympic spirit in the arena. I would be delighted to be back here at the Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games in Munich in 2018.'
