The German pair of Tabea Budde and Delf Borrmann produced a scintillating combined event to claim gold in the World Cup #4 Mixed Relay at Pierre de Coubertin Modern Pentathlon Centre in Chengdu, China.

Team Germany overtook silver medalists Katarzyna Wojcik and Szymon Staskiewicz from Poland in the final shoot to secure their well deserved gold. Suzanne Stettinius and Sam Sacksen from USA out sprinted China in the final 100m to claim bronze in a dramatic finish.

19 year old Budde said after her gold medal performance: "I am very proud to win my first World Cup medal at only my second World Cup. The mixed relay is very cool and I look forward to competing in more of them."

Bormann, who's gold is also his first World Cup medal stated: "The key to our win was our solid fence, finishing in 4th position. I was then able to keep my cool in the final shoot to win. I like the mix relay because it is different and competing with the girls is very fun."

Staskiewicz's Polish team was leading all day thanks to a superb fence and swim. A poor ride then dropped them back to 2nd, a position they maintained to the end. "I am very satisfied with this medal. It makes up for a poor individual final, so I can now return back to Poland a happy man."

Bronze medalists, USA could not be happier with their medal. They struggled in the fence and swim, but a strong ride put them back into contention prior to the combined event. "The result is simply awesome. This is my comeback event after I broke my collarbone and to cap it off with a bronze medal is a dream come true" said Stettinius. This excitement was echoed by Sacksen: "I am very pleased, my hard training was the key to the final sprint which won us the bronze."

UIPM President Dr h.c. Klaus Schormann said after the conclusion of a very successful World Cup: "I am very thankful for the Chinese organizing this mixed relay, as we push for it's inclusion into the 2016 Olympic Games. This concludes the 2011 World Cup Series which was the 1st ever conducted with laser shooting, this was a fantastic success.  We now look forward to the Olympic test event, the World Cup Final in London GBR on 9-10 July 2011."
