MUNICH 2018 LANDS IN LAUSANNE
Katarina Witt signs Golden Book on symbolic visit to the Olympic Museum
Lausanne, 16 May 2011: Munich 2018 Chair, Katarina Witt, today launched the home straight of the Bid Committee's candidature journey with a symbolic visit to the Olympic Museum in Lausanne, where she signed the historic Golden Book.
Two-time Olympic champion Katarina Witt is leading an influential delegation from the Munich 2018 team for the all-important 2018 Briefing for IOC Members this week. Alongside her in Lausanne will be: Thomas Bach, President of the German Olympic Sports Confederation and Olympic champion; Hans-Peter Friedrich, Germany's Federal Minister of the Interior; Christian Ude, Lord Mayor of Munich; Claudia Bokel, IOC member and Olympian; Magdalena Neuner, double Olympic champion in biathlon; Ian Robertson, BMW Group's Head of Sales and Marketing; and Bernhard Schwank, CEO of the Munich 2018 Bid Committee.
Katarina Witt said:
'As a former athlete it is fantastic to be here in Lausanne - the birthplace of the modern Olympic Movement. Signing the legendary Golden Book is a real honour for me, but even more important is the chance we have here to make a real impact on the IOC members just as we enter the final stages of our candidature. After our excellent feedback from the IOC Evaluation Commission last week, we are looking forward to sharing our Festival of Friendship concept.'
Wednesday's technical presentation to the IOC is one of the most important engagements in a critical month for the Candidate City, with preparations for the finale in Durban also well underway.
