Korea and USA dominate Archery World Cup Stage 1

For the fourth time in sixth edition, the coastal town of Porec in Croatia hosted the Archery World Cup debut next week. The participation was an all-time record with more than 350 archers on the field.

The morning session on Saturday 7 May in downtown Porec by the seaside was devoted to the Finals in the compound division. Compound matches were all shot at 50 metres. USA's dominance in the compound division was shown once again with four wins out of five events. In individual Rodger WILLET Jr. and Erika ANSCHUTZ clinched gold shooting close to perfection. USA also won the competition in men's team and mixed team. Only the women's team event was for another country, France.

The afternoon brought competition to an end featuring all finals in the recurve division, with matches at 70m. Korea and USA took all five gold medals in recurve. The reigning World Cup Final winner Brady ELLISON led the American team, winning the men's individual and team events and taking silver in the mixed team competition. The Korean HAN Gyeonghee clinched the women's individual and team gold medals, while her fellow countrymen JUNG Dasomi and OH Jin Hyek won the mixed event.

The Archery World Cup comprises four stages that will allow the top 7 athletes per category to qualify for the Final in Istanbul in September. They will be joined by one wild card from Turkey. The other legs will take place in Antalya (TUR), Ogden (USA) and Shanghai (CHN). The best mixed teams of the season will also go to Istanbul to challenge the host country.
