MUNICH 2018 LAUNCHES PART THREE OF INNOVATIVE 'LIVING BID BOOK'
Munich 2018’s vision for a safe and secure Festival of Friendship the focus of third instalment
Munich, 5 May 2011: Munich 2018 has presented the third and final instalment of the ‘Living Bid Book’, created in partnership with Allianz, with the latest in the video-documentary series illustrating the Bid Committee’s vision for staging the world’s greatest celebration of winter sports in a safe and secure environment in 2018.
The third instalment of the pioneering series will bring the safety and security theme of Munich 2018’s Bid Book to life, making the bid’s strategy fully accessible to the public. The final video-documentary demonstrates how Munich 2018 will pursue a philosophy of engagement over enforcement and further Germany’s unprecedented track record for ensuring absolute security in a festival atmosphere at mega-events such as the FIFA World Cup in 2006. Munich 2018 is working with German, international and Olympic experts to ensure the highest security and security standards are applied to every aspect of planning for the bid.
Katarina Witt, Chair of the Munich 2018 Bid Committee, said:
‘This final episode of the ‘Living Bid Book’ will convey our vision for staging a Festival of Friendship in a safe and secure environment to the world. This ground-breaking video-documentary series is revolutionising the process in which the bid is delivered to the public. Germany is a world-leader in staging mega-events in a festive but secure environment and we are confident that we can deliver a safe Games in the true spirit of Bavarian friendship and hospitality.’
Munich 2018 offers proven security management expertise; the basis for the safety of all participants at global events. Hubertus Andrä, Head of Police Operations for the Bavarian Ministry of the Interior, explained the single chain-of-command system. He said:
‘In Bavaria, all the strands of security come together at the Coordination Department of the Bavarian Ministry of the Interior, and from here we coordinate all the necessary services. We have a wealth of experience in the management of major events, especially in Munich where we safely host Oktoberfest and many premier sporting events every year.’
Munich 2018 national sponsor, Allianz, assisted in the development of the bid’s sophisticated security strategy, offering its corporate security experts as ‘knowledge partners’. Allianz has shared its vast expertise to strengthen the bid, contributing its know-how for the development of three main themes for the ‘Living Bid Book’: ‘Paralympics’, ‘CO2 Compensation’ and ‘Security’.
Christian Deuringer, Allianz Head of Global Brand Management, said:
‘We fully support Munich 2018 in its bid to host a carbon-neutral, barrier-free and safe and secure Games. Allianz is committed to the development of the ‘Living Bid Book’ which has transformed the 400-page Candidature File into a video series that can be widely appreciated by a public audience.’
The final video-documentary showcases the overall safety management and the highly advanced technology that Munich 2018 will utilise at an Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games in 2018. This includes the advanced ‘3-Finger-Scan’ accreditation system used successfully at the World Economic Forum in Davos.
Munich 2018’s security concept is based on engagement, so security will not intrude on the celebratory Festival of Friendship atmosphere key to the athlete-friendly bid. Munich’s is a bid by athletes for athletes, and as two-time Olympic champion in alpine skiing, Markus Wasmeier, emphasised, ‘the athletes should be able to concentrate on the Winter Games, without any complications or distractions.’
In a critical month for the Candidate City, the ‘Living Bid Book’ will again prove invaluable in demonstrating one of the greatest strengths of Munich’s bid. Munich 2018 is fresh off the back of a successful trip to Doha, Qatar, for the 9th World Conference on Sport and the Environment and preparations are well underway for the all-important technical presentation to the IOC in Lausanne on 18 May 2011.
