Horton set to compete in Glasgow World Cup
INDIANAPOLIS, April 7, 2011 - 2010 World all-around bronze-medalist Jonathan Horton of Houston will compete in the FIG World Cup event at Kelvin Hall in Glasgow, Scotland, on April 16, 2011. This is the second of four all-around World Cup events. Horton won the first, the 2011 AT&T American Cup in Jacksonville, Fla., on March 5.
Horton, a member of Team Hilton HHonors, will face a field that includes Philipp Boy of Germany, the World all-around silver medalist; Mykola Kuksenkov of the Ukraine, AT&T American Cup silver medalist; Daniel Purvis of Great Britain, World and European bronze medalist on floor exercise; Sam Hunter of Great Britain, 2010 British all-around champion; Lu Bo of China, sixth in the World Championships all-around; Alexander Shatilov of Israel; and Cyril Tommasone of France. Six of the competitors in Glasgow competed in Jacksonville.
The women's field includes Lauren Mitchell of Australia, sixth in the all-around at the 2010 World Championships; Yuyuan Jiang of China, 2010 World all-around silver medalist; Ariella Kaeslin of Switzerland; Hannah Whelan of Great Britain; Raluca Oana Haidu of Romania; Jessica Lopez of Venezuela, Huang Qiushang of China, fourth in the 2010 World all-around rankings; and Elizabeth Seitz of Germany.
This World Cup event has an all-around format, where men compete on six apparatus and women compete on four. There are two remaining all-around World Cup competitions after Glasgow: Stuttgart, Germany, November 12-13; and Tokyo, Japan, November 26-27.
