Populous acclaims SportAccord Convention role in 2012 run-up

Populous is delighted to become the official architectural sponsor for SportAccord Convention 2011, recognising the importance of this internationally acclaimed event during the run-up to the London 2012 Olympics and Paralympics, says John Barrow, Senior Principal.

Our team at Populous is proud of our long-term involvement and commitment in the future of sport in the wider community. Our architectural design, masterplanning and event expertise has contributed to the success of many of London’s sporting assets, helping to realise the prospect of a truly memorable Olympic year and a milestone Decade of Sport to follow’.

The core services of our company are based around the requirements of the sports, cultural and entertainment sectors.  However, as the interdependencies of other sectors overlap with our core areas of expertise, we have sought to broaden and develop our skills and services.  This allows us to embed these sporting and cultural venues into the fabric of a city and to make them more accessible to the general population.  Populous’ portfolio consists of such icons as Yankee Stadium in New York; the London 2012 Olympic Stadium; Soccer City in South Africa for the 2010 FIFA world cup, the Centre Court roof at Wimbledon, and Sochi 2014 Olympic stadium in Russia. In addition to its stadia designs, Populous has worked on over 400 major events, including overlay design for events such as Super Bowls, FIFA World Cups and Summer and Winter Olympic Games.

Our latest project, the masterplan for the Nanjing 2014 Youth Olympic Games, has allowed us to bring together all of our design skills and experience in the design and operation of major sports events to create a new piece of city that will draw people together for unbelievable experiences.
