GAES CENTROS AUDITIVOS: RACE UPDATE CAFFARI AND CORBELLA UNDER ATTACK

The all female duo onboard GAES Centros Auditivos find themselves under attack as they continue to climb the Atlantic to the west of the Cape Verde islands. The assault is not from their race rivals, Hugo Boss, who are a comfortable 1294 miles behind but from Caffari’s nemesis - the flying fish. Corbella, who as a former vet is more sympathetic to their cause, has been attempting to rescue the fish but the sheer volumes mean she is fighting a losing battle.

As the GAES girls passed through the Sargasso Sea over the last few days, they have also encountered swaths of yellow grass seaweed which have surrounded the boat and swept across the deck. A small clump of the seaweed has been pinned to GAES Centros Auditivos as a nautical version of lucky heather to help speed them along their final 2,430 miles to the finish.

Commenting on the environmental ambush, Caffari said:

“Nature is really throwing it all at us this week, literally! The sea around us has turned into a swamp of yellow grass seaweed which is washed all over the deck with the waves and now the flying fish are back to get me. We can’t complain as these are all signs that we’re homeward bound, so I will just keep ducking the fish while Anna tries to catch and save them!”

At the 0500hrs ranking, Caffari and Corbella maintain their 6th place position 562 miles behind closest race rivals Neutrogena and 1294 miles ahead of Hugo Boss. The Barcelona Word Race continues to be led by Virbac-Paprec 3, who have just entered the Mediterranean, with Mapfre are in second place and Renault Z.E. holding third.
