UIPM Awards 2011 Senior World Championships to Moscow

Double Olympic Champion Moiseev will be looking to win his maiden World Championships in his home town

UIPM is pleased to announce that the 2011 Modern Pentathlon Senior World Championships will be held in Moscow, Russia on 31 August - 7 September following the withdrawal of the original host Cairo, Egypt due to recent instability.

"UIPM is very thankful to the Russian Modern Pentathlon Federation and to Russian Sport in general with who we have always had a good relationship." says UIPM President Dr h.c. Klaus Schormann

With 3 London 2012 Olympic qualification spots to grab, it promises to be an unforgettable spectacle.

UIPM Secretary Joël Bouzou mentions that "This World Championships will be the first conducted in Modern Pentathlon history using laser pistols which will provide a higher level of enjoyment for spectators and fans watching the action in the stadium and on TV around the World."

The local crowd will be hoping the Russian athletes can repeat their World beating feat from the 2010 World Championships in Chengdu, China which saw Serguei Karayakin crowned Men's World Champion, the Women's Relay team grabbing Gold and Russia easily topping the medal tally with 2 Gold, 1 Silver and 1 Bronze.

"It is a great honour and joy for Russia to welcome the UIPM family, one year before the Olympic Games" says Russian Modern Pentathlon President Vyacheslav Aminov. "We are faithful to our tradition and to all the great champions we had until now in this great sport."
