ANNECY 2018 VISITS MOROCCO

A delegation representing Annecy's bid to host the 2018 Olympic and Paralympic Games travelled to Marrakech this weekend (17 to 19 March). The delegation, headed by Annecy 2018 President Charles Beigbeder, alongside Jean-Pierre Vidal, vice-President, and Guy Drut, President of the International Bureau and member of the International Olympic Committee, was there to attend the 5th edition of the Africa International Sports Convention (CISA).

Organised jointly by the Morocco National Olympic Committee (MNOC), the Moroccan Ministry for Youth and Sports and JAPPO - in partnership with the Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa (ANOCA) - CISA provides an opportunity each year for major players in sports in Africa to meet up and discuss ways of developing sport on the Mother Continent.

Throughout the three-day convention, the debate focussed on Africa's ability to organise major sporting events and the legacy which such events leave for the host cities or countries. Other topics broached included new strategies for developing sport in Africa, a role for African talents in the world of sports, and integration of athletes after retirement.

Charles Beigbeder took this opportunity to meet and exchange views with numerous distinguished specialists of sport on the African continent. On the day after Guy Drut's visit, he was able to listen to the needs of the African populations and gain a fuller insight into how best we can support regions where restating and defending the values of sport can help give new hope to young people.

"Guy Drut's presence BY OUR SIDES was a further reminder of the total involvement of OUR NATION'S SPORTING COMMUNITY behind the Annecy bid. WE ARE KEEN TO CONTINUE OUR EFFORTS TO MEET UP WITH MAJOR INTERNATIONAL SPORTS SPECIALISTS WORLDWIDE IN ORDER TO FURTHER DEVELOP OUR OWN EXPERIENCE", said Charles Beigbeder.

After Marrakech, Annecy 2018 will continue its travels around the world, with next week's trip to Seoul for the Annual Conference of the International Sports Press Association (AIPS, 22-24 March), and then on to Noumea for the General Assembly of the Oceania National Olympic Committees (ONOC, 24-26 March).
