This is the first international competition to be held in the stadium, inaugurated on 4th February 2011, and the venue proposed by the Annecy 2018 Bid Committee to host the biathlon events at the 2018 Winter Olympics. Between 15 and 18th December Le Grand Bornand will host a stage of the World Cup.

500 volunteers recruited from among 750 applicants will pull out all the stops between now and Sunday to ensure that this competition meets World Cup standards.

This site, which includes a 30-target shooting ramp and is designed in line with sustainable development principles, required an investment of 4 million Euros, half of which was financed by Le Grand Bornand resort. It also received backing from major economic and industrial stakeholders such as the State, the Rhône-Alpes region, the Pays de Savoie Assembly, the Haute Savoie Regional Council and the French Ski Federation.

The IBU Cup is the sport's second tier at international level. Between November and March seven stages were held in Norway, Italy, Austria, the Czech Republic, Germany, Slovakia and Bulgaria. The eighth and final stage will take place at Le Grand Bornand where over two hundred biathletes from twenty-two nations are getting ready to compete on a perfectly designed track.

“In a sport where the French Team obtains great results such as in the current world championships taking place in Khanty Mansiysk and notably Martin Fourcade’s title for the pursuit event; the final of the IBU Cup at Le Grand Bornand gives us the chance to welcome people from all over the world and showcase our first-class organisation and facilities in these magnificent mountains.  We are looking forward to hosting biathletes from all over the globe,” said Charles Beigbeder, President of the Annecy 2018 Bid Committee.

The competition schedule:

Thursday 10th: men's individual at 9.00am, women's individual at 12.30pm

Saturday 12th: men's sprint at 9.30am, ladies' sprint at 12.30pm

Sunday 13th: men's pursuit at 9.45am, ladies' pursuit at midday.
