Annecy 2018: congrats to the French Team for their great results during the World Championships

After an excellent showing from the French team at the Alpine Skiing World Championships, it was the Nordic skiers’ turn to triumph, with Frenchman Jason Lamy Chappuis crowned Nordic Combined Champion yesterday in Norway and today’s outstanding bronze medal for the French mixed relay team at the Biathlon World Championships in Siberia.

New triumphs for the French team!

In February the French team served us up a superb collection of medals at the 2011 Alpine Skiing World Championships: gold for the Team Event, bronze for Tessa Worley in Giant Slalom, silver for Cyprien Richard in Giant Slalom… and another gold for Jean-Baptise Grange in the Slalom!

In March the Nordic skiers took over, with some equally fine performances: US born Jason Lamy Chappuis, who is 24 and lives in the French Jura mountains, yesterday became the Combined Nordic (ski-jump) World Champion in Olso-Holmenkollen, a year after winning Olympic gold in Vancouver. Jason is now one of a very select band of French skiers, with Jean-Claude Killy and Edgar Grospiron, to have achieved the Olympic, World Cup ranking and World Championship triple!

And today in Siberia it’s the turn of the French biathletes to shine in the World Championships, with the mixed relay team scooping the bronze medal: Martin Fourcade, Marie-Laure Brunet and Marie Dorin, medal winners at the Vancouver Olympics, once again revealed their talent, alongside promising newcomer from Savoie, Alexis Boeuf!

Charles Beigbeder, President of Annecy 2018, was keen to congratulate the whole French team, in every discipline: “Congratulations to Jason on his fabulous achievement yesterday, and to our biathletes for their medal today. The French Ski team is gaining recognition in every discipline, carrying the French colours to every ski-run and venue across the world. And the winter sports competition season isn’t over yet…! Bravo to these champions, and to the whole French sports network, whose hard work and contributions demonstrate French know-how and expertise when it comes to producing champions and reaching the top spot on the winner’s podium. France victorious! This is the attitude and expertise that we want to share with the world through the Annecy 2018 project.”
