Tymoshchenko Claims Gold and Breaks World Record @ World Cup #1

Rancho Mirage, USA: 28 February 2011 -Pavlo Tymoshchenko (UKR) has won his first ever World Cup Gold Medal in Rancho Mirage, USA and has also broken the overall shooting World Record in a remarkable time of 43 seconds for 15

Tymoshchenko out shot and out ran World #3 Adam Marosi (HUN) who grabbed silver and the biggest surprise of the day was World Ranked #174 Mikalai Hayanouski (BLR) who stormed home to beat his more fancied rivals for Bronze.
Tymoshchenko had a fantastic start to the day finishing 2nd in the fencing competition matched with a competitive swim and a near perfect ride which meant he started the Combined Event in 3rd position. He managed to make 3rd into 1st by the finishing line due to his World Record shooting together with how he explained it "very fast run and a fantastic finish". Tymoshchenko also stated "it is great to have such a good start to the season and to win my first World Cup here is very special. This would have never happened without my Father and my Coach, so thank you"
2009 World Champion Adam Marosi who had to settle for Silver after being beaten by Tymoshchenko's incredible shoot and run said: "Life is great, I love laser shooting, it makes everything much simpler and easier. I had a disappointing World Championships last year so I went away and freshened up in the off season and changed coaches which has improved everything".
In addition to Tymoshchenko's World overall shooting record for 15 shots, another World Record was also broken by Michal Michalik (CZE) for one round of shooting (5 shots) in a staggering 10.7 seconds, this led to Michalik finishing in 4th position, together by him winning the fencing earlier in the day.
These World Records, as well as being the first ever World Cup conducted with Laser Shooting and the first World Cup in the USA since 1999 makes this World Cup very histric and certainly one to remember.
UIPM Dr h.c. Klaus Schormann reflected on the success of laser shooting: "Laser shooting allows the Federation to bring this great sport to the kids, we can now go into schools and start kids shooting laser pistols at any age. Laser Shooting is also beneficial for governments, as now all safety concerns are withdrawn and there is no lead pollution deteriorating the environment."
UIPM Secretary General Joël Bouzou added: "Laser shooting makes the event much fairer for all athletes. Athletes can now shoot outside and not be affected by wind conditions as we now shoot with light. To keep the conditions exactly the same for the athletes the trigger pulls air which results in the same sensation whilst shooting and also the laser stays in the pistol once the trigger is pulled for 10 m/s in order to replicate the same time it takes for a pellet to be released from the pistol."
The medals were presented by Dr h.c. Klaus Schormann, UIPM Vice President John Helmick and UIPM NORCECA President John Holland. Mayor of Rancho Mirage Richard Kite, Chairman of USA Pentathlon Barry Matchett and Head of the Organising Committee Mike Duffy presented the flowers.
Join us for World Cup #2 in Sassari, Italy on 14-17 April 2011.
