ATTORNEYS TO EXAMINE WHY SPORTS LAW MATTERS

LAUSANNE, Switzerland - The SportAccord Convention announced today that it will host a conference of senior sports law practitioners from around the world as a complement to the main conference programme. The gathering, called LawAccord, will take place on the morning of Tuesday 5th April in Park Plaza County Hall, adjacent to the Park Plaza Westminster Bridge, the main venue for the SportAccord Convention. LawAccord's sessions will address the broad theme of "Why Sports Law Matters," reflecting the overarching theme "Why Sport Matters" of this year's main conference.

"The potential of sports as a driver of legal change because of its cross-border implications is significant and has probably not been fully understood or appreciated," said London-based sports attorney Stephen Townley, who has worked alongside SportAccord Convention to develop the new LawAccord initiative. "It is important to encourage participation in the development of sports law by a wide range of lawyers as an integral part of their professional and scholastic development.  The current era of sports regulation provides much fertile ground for the creation and evolution of jurisprudence with potentially widespread influence and application."

The half-day LawAccord conference will consist of a series of workshop sessions built around expert presentations by Professor Matthew Mitten, director of the National Sports Law Institute and the LL.M. in Sports Law Program for Foreign Lawyers at Marquette University Law School in the United States, and Hayden Opie, director of studies of the Sports Law Program at the Melbourne Law School of the University of Melbourne, Australia.

Details of the programme can be found on http://www.sportaccordconvention.com
Sports lawyers are able to register for this half-day LawAccord session only, or for both LawAccord and the SportAccord Convention. Registrations can be made online via http://www.sportaccordconvention.com
