Michael L. Buckner Law Firm Offers Workshop for Sports Journalists on the NCAA Enforcement Process

A sports investigation boutique law firm will conduct a complimentary webinar for sports journalists and other media professionals on the NCAA enforcement process.

Pompano Beach, FL, February 16, 2011—(Sports Features Communications)—The ongoing investigation of allegations involving Auburn University and Heisman Trophy winner Cam Newton once again raised the issue of transparency within the NCAA enforcement process. In response, the Michael L. Buckner Law Firm today announced a complimentary one-hour webinar designed for sports journalists and other media professionals on Tuesday, March 29, 2011, from 12 noon to 1:00 pm EDT (9:00 am to 10:00 am PDT). The workshop, “What Sports Journalists Need to Know About the NCAA Enforcement Process in 60 Minutes,” will provide participants with an overview of investigations of alleged NCAA rules-violations at colleges and universities. Participants will be able to use the web-based seminar to gain a better understanding of the NCAA enforcement process—which will assist journalists in preparing articles and features on universities under NCAA scrutiny. The seminar will be conducted by college sports investigator Michael L. Buckner, an attorney and licensed private investigator with the Michael L. Buckner Law Firm.

The workshop will use a PowerPoint presentation (via a web-based system) and conference call format to provide participants with a summary on each step in the NCAA enforcement process. Over the course of the workshop, participants will learn how NCAA and university investigators: process allegations; interview witnesses; develop infractions reports and other documents; and prepare for infractions hearings.

The seminar is designed for journalists who are assigned to: cover colleges and universities; and write stories involving NCAA infractions cases. The seminar will enable journalists to research and prepare better articles and features on investigations of alleged NCAA rules-violations by:

• Presenting a synopsis of each step in the NCAA enforcement process.
• Exploring why universities make certain decisions in infractions cases.
• Identifying the best sources of information during an infractions case.

This seminar is complimentary for credential media professionals, but is limited to the first 30 registered media organizations (U.S. domestic only).

Michael L. Buckner advises organizations on NCAA enforcement investigations and appeals (with a specialty on complex infractions cases) and has appeared before NCAA infractions committees on several occasions.
