First day of the IOC Evaluation Commission's visit to Annecy Annecy: 2018 offers Authentic Games designed with athletes right in the heart of the mountains

On the first day of the 11-member IOC Evaluation Commission's visit to Annecy, the Annecy 2018 team unveiled its vision for the Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Annecy 2018 is offering highly compact Games tightly centered around two hubs located in Annecy and Chamonix and linked by an efficient transport system. Charles Beigbeder, President of Annecy 2018, said that, "The French bid offers Games on a human scale in a region which has been shaped and guided by Olympism and will provide a worthy setting for the greatest of events, fully supported by local
stakeholders and residents."

Both the Annecy and Chamonix hubs will host ice and snow competitions in venues right in the heart of Annecy and the resorts so that the entire Olympic family can celebrate sports, culture and youth in the birthplace of the Olympic Games, alongside local residents.

Pernilla Wiberg, Vice President of Annecy 2018 and a legendary alpine skier, added, "I have experienced four Olympic Games, but the most memorable were the Lillehammer Games. Annecy is the only place I have ever found the same compact, intimate feel."

Alongside Annecy 2018 President Charles Beigbeder, the entire sporting movement, represented by IOC members Jean-Claude Killy and Guy Drut, French NOC Chairman Denis Masseglia, Bid Vice Presidents and Olympic Champions Pernilla Wiberg and Jean-Pierre Vidal, and Annecy 2018 Athlete Ambassadors Sandrine Bailly, Gwendal Peizerat and Perinne Pelen, showed the IOC its serious involvement in all aspects of the bid. Today's presentations covered the themes of Vision, Legacy and Communications (1), the overall Games Concept (2), Sports and Sites (9), Paralympic Games (10), Olympic Villages (11), Environment and Meteorology (12), Accommodations (14) and Transport (15). They were supported by the bid's technical experts on all eight of the themes.

"The mountains won't change to fit the Games: the Games have to change to fit the mountains," added Jean-Pierre Vidal, who is the driving force behind Annecy 2018's sustainable development concept. Annecy 2018 aims to prepare for the future by promoting a sustainable approach to the Winter Games, with more eco-friendly infrastructures and eco-resorts, and by leaving the region a unique legacy of
expertise and sports infrastructures which will become a part of its economic development and inspire young people around the world to get involved in sports.

Tomorrow the IOC Evaluation Commission will continue its visit with a trip to La Clusaz and Le Grand Bornand.
