Jean-Claude Killy: “I’ve been with Annecy 2018 since day one”

Four days before the arrival of the IOC Evaluation Commission, Jean-Claude Killy, French IOC member and triple Olympic skiing champion at the Grenoble Games, reiterated his commitment to the Annecy 2018 bid in French newspaper Le Dauphiné libéré, this Friday 4th February. In his first public statement this year, Jean-Claude Killy pulled no punches: "there's no mistake with Annecy".

In an interview published today in the regional daily, Jean-Claude Killy confirmed, "the bid-book is absolutely right for the market and is risk-free".

He believes that the new leadership, in place since the beginning of the year, is "far more legitimate". Jean-Claude Killy, who describes Charles Beigbeder as "a man of many qualities", is also especially pleased with the authority vested in the athletes, in particular the vice-presidential roles for Pernilla Wiberg and Jean-Pierre Vidal: "it's great to have athletes who have climbed to the top of the ladder, whose voices carry plenty of weight."

Jean-Claude Killy also reaffirmed the total commitment of the two French members of the IOC. "Guy Drut and I are both here to provide help and support in our own fields. I've been here since day one, behind the scenes, but effective."

"We can organise spectacular Winter Games", declared Jean-Claude Killy, who is everyone's expert in the field, with his champion's experience and a series of missions for the IOC behind him: "When you're talking about Chamonix, La Clusaz, Le Grand-Bornand, and Annecy a stone's throw from Geneva, there's no need to go into long-winded explanations. It speaks for itself".
