EVENTSCOTLAND GIVE SILVER SUPPORT TO SPORTACCORD CONVENTION 2011

The SportAccord International Convention is being held in the UK for the first time and EventScotland today announced their support of the event for the fourth consecutive year.

London will be the host city for the convention, which brings together more than 1500 leading representatives from international sport over six days in an exclusive and authoritative environment, to build relationships, share knowledge and develop ideas that will benefit the entire community.

Paul Bush OBE, Chief Operating Officer for EventScotland said, “EventScotland has attended SportAccord since its inception back in 2003. We recognise the importance of the convention within our industry and to Scotland.

“The event provides us with a wonderful opportunity to promote our capabilities as a host nation to a global audience from the highest echelons of major sporting events and showcase Scotland as “The Perfect Stage.”

The ‘home’ location provides Scottish partners and businesses with a unique opportunity to share insights and ideas with the aim of developing and securing business. The conference is a key platform for the IOC, world sport governing bodies, major event suppliers and world event destinations and with London 2012 rapidly approaching will be a key moment for Sport and Business in the UK.

Anna Hellman, Executive Director of SportAccord Convention commented, “Scotland has been a fantastic supporter of the SportAccord Convention over the years. We have seen them win the rights to host many events including the World Mountain Bike and Trial Championships in 2007, the 36th IAAF World Cross Country Championships as well as the Glasgow Commonwealth Games and The Ryder Cup in 2014. EventScotland is a very proactive organisation which delivers great benefits to our stakeholder federations. I’m sure they are glad of the shorter flight this year with the SportAccord Convention coming to London!”

Joining EventScotland from 3-8 April will be delegates from Glasgow 2014, Glasgow Life, Glasgow City Marketing Bureau, Scottish Enterprise and Edinburgh City Council. It is an important time to reinforce the influence that Scotland has in shaping the sporting landscape through the legacy of London 2012 then onto the 2014 Commonwealth Games, The 2014 Ryder Cup and beyond.

Scotland is the perfect stage for major sporting events and SportAccord is a strong platform from which to showcase what the country has to offer the sporting world.
