PyeongChang 2018 receives further support from new national sponsors

Hyundai Motors Group and the Korean Association of Newspapers sign sponsorship agreement to support the 2018 bid



PYEONGCHANG, SOUTH KOREA, 25 JANUARY 2011: The PyeongChang 2018 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games bid has been boosted with the announcement of two additional major sponsorship agreements.
On Monday 24 January 2011, the Hyundai Motors Group presented a donation of 500 million Korean Won (approximately USD 450,000) to the PyeongChang 2018 Bid Committee, with a message promising support until the 2018 Host City decision in July. The Hyundai Motors Group is South Korea's largest automobile manufacturer and the world's fifth largest automaker.
On Tuesday 25 January 2011, the PyeongChang 2018 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games Bid Committee signed a sponsorship agreement with the Korean Association of Newspapers (KAN), an organisation that has 47 members comprised of daily newspapers and a news agency. The agreement was signed by PyeongChang 2018 Bid Committee Chairman and CEO, Yang Ho Cho, and KAN President, Jae Ho Kim.
PyeongChang 2018's sponsorship agreement with the KAN will offer the bid exposure via the member media outlets for the remainder of the 2018 Winter Games bid campaign.
Jae Ho Kim, President of the Korean Association of Newspapers, said: "The Association is very pleased to add the support of our 47 members to help bring the 2018 Winter Games to Korea for the very first time. We look forward to working with the Bid Committee to deliver its media content and provide the enthusiastic Korean population with important news stories about the bid."
Yang Ho Cho, PyeongChang 2018 Bid Committee Chairman and CEO, said: "On behalf of the PyeongChang 2018 Bid Committee, I would like to express great appreciation for the committed support from the Hyundai Motor Group and KAN. Their support and the nation's passionate backing for our bid gives us an extra boost as we prepare for the important International Olympic Committee Evaluation Commission visit to PyeongChang next month."

The city of PyeongChang in Gangwon Province, South Korea is bidding to host the Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games in 2018. The city's bid is managed by the PyeongChang 2018 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games Bid Committee, a non-profit organisation that was established on 14 September 2009. The Chairman and CEO of the Bid Committee is Yang Ho Cho, who is also Chairman of Korean Air. Additional members of the PyeongChang 2018 Bid Committee include representatives from all levels of national and local government, the Korean Olympic Committee (KOC), the Korean Paralympic Committee (KPC), winter sports athletes and para-athletes, and private businesses. The election of the Host City of the XXIII Olympic Winter Games will take place during the 123rd International Olympic Committee (IOC) Session in Durban, South Africa on 6 July 2011.
