SPEEDSKATING: U.S. Long Track Speedskaters Arrive in Heerenveen for 2011 World Sprint Championships

Long track sprinters prepare to compete in the ISU World Sprint Championships in Heerenveen

KEARNS, UT (January 21, 2011) - Team USA’s long track sprinters have arrived in Heerenveen for the upcoming 2011 ISU World Sprint Championships, January 22-23.
The event, which features competition in the 500m and 1000m distances, will include some of Team USA’s top skaters including two-time Olympic champion Shani Davis (Chicago, IL), 2010 500m World Cup Champion Tucker Fredricks (Janesville, WI), and current 1000m ladies distance World Cup leader Heather Richardson (High Point, N.C.).
The event, will also be the first trip to Heerenveen for Joey Lindsey (Las Vegas, NV). One of the newest members of the U.S. Long Track National Team, Lindsey finished second overall at this month’s 2011 U.S. National Long Track Championships in Salt Lake City "I feel that this is my first international competition with all the big guys here, so I have nothing to lose and a lot to gain," said Lindsey.
The ISU World Sprint Championships will be held at the famed Thialf ice arena in Heerenveen, Netherlands. "To skate a World Championships in Thialf is always special since this is the mecca of the speedskating world, ” said U.S. Long Track Head Coach Ryan Shimabukuro. "The atmosphere will be very energetic on the weekend and the competition will be extremely tough for the overall podium, this year."
