Rising U.S. Star Gatt Joins Norway's Molde FK
In six months Josh Gatt went from playing youth club ball in Michigan, to playing with a 2nd division professional club in Austria and will now head to Norway to join his new club.
The United States Football Club, the parent company of the Orange County Blue Star, is proud to announce that rising American soccer star Josh Gatt has officially joined Norwegian Division One professional club Molde FK. Gatt, who signed his first professional contract to play with Austrian club SCR Altach in January of 2010, has emerged this past year as one of the premier young talents in the United States. His transfer to Norway is the latest step forward in the ascension of his promising young career.
The 19-year-old Gatt’s promotion to Molde FK will align him with legendary new manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, the former Manchester United world-class striker.
“This is a great step in my career and I’m really excited to be joining Molde FK,” Gatt said. “It was a lifelong dream to become a professional player, and the training and experience I earned with SCR Altach was invaluable. I would like to thank SCR Altach for everything they’ve done and specifically my coach Adi Huetter, U.S.F.C and my management team Sporteo International. Now I am progressing forward, and my family and I could not be more pleased.”
Revered for his exceptional speed and attacking ability, Gatt has earned an international buzz in a very short span of time. After earning a starting role with SCR Altach in October, Gatt produced four league goals and countless highlights. Gatt further cemented his domestic reputation in December of 2010, when he was invited to U.S. U20 National Camp where he recorded two goals and three assists during one friendly match against Canada’s U20 squad.
Gatt honed his early potential in the U.S. Soccer Development Academy as well as in the Orange County Blue Star’s SuperElite® system, a program designed to help elite players reach the world-class level. As part of the program’s initiative, Gatt was sent along with 17 American players on the annual SuperElite® All-American Showcase that features matches against world renowned European clubs.
“Josh truly embraced the training of the SuperElite® System and the instruction he has received at every level of his career,” said SuperElite® Technical Director Jon Spencer. “SCR Altach has been tremendous in developing him as a soccer player and a person, and we’re seeing a career blossom before our eyes. This is not only a victory for Josh, but for American soccer as a whole. This shows our players what is possible.”
