Annecy 2018 moves into top gear!

Champion ambassadors consign bid file - new President Charles Beigbeder confirmed today




Earlier today, Monday 10th January, Annecy 2018 took a decisive step forward. After the team of Champion Ambassadors submitted Annecy's bid book to the IOC, the Supervisory Board met in Annecy to elect the new President of the Annecy 2018 consortium, Charles Beigbeder, assisted by two great champions, Jean-Pierre Vidal and Pernilla Wiberg.

At 11.30 this morning, the official Annecy 2018 delegation, headed by champions Jean-Pierre Vidal, Florence Masnada, Antoine Deneriaz, Perrine Pelen, Gwendal Peizerat and Denis Barbet, alongside Jean-Luc Rigaut, Mayor of Annecy, and Denis Masseglia, Chairman of the French NOC, officially handed over the Annecy 2018 bid book at the IOC headquarters in Lausanne. "This 450-page document, the fruit of long months of hard work by a tremendous team of athletes and experts, is a summary of all the strengths our project has to offer! A whole host of strengths which we will be actively promoting between now and July 6th", said Jean-Luc Rigaut.

This afternoon, the consortium's founding members (the French State, the French NOC, the Rhône-Alpes Region, the Haute-Savoie General Council and the Town of Annecy) elected Charles Beigbeder as President of Annecy 2018, according the new legal form of the association set up to carry the project forward.

This 46-year old French entrepreneur, a man of challenge, fully versed in international relations, a keen skier, lover of the mountains and defender of the environment, expressed his pride and enthusiasm "to be involved in this tremendous project, with a will to unite the efforts of one and all around one supreme ambition: to host the 2018 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games!" He will be supported in his task by two iconic Winter Olympic champions, Jean-Pierre Vidal and Pernilla Wiberg, as Vice-Presidents of Annecy 2018.

Following this election, a press briefing was held in the presence of Chantal Jouanno, Minister for Sports, Jean-Luc Rigaut, Mayor of Annecy, Denis Masseglia, Chairman of the French NOC, Jean-Jack Queyranne, President of the Rhône-Alpes Region, Christian Monteil, President of the Haute-Savoie General Council, Sophie Dion, adviser to the French President, Guy Drut, French IOC member, Charles Beigbeder and Jean-Pierre Vidal, alongside numerous champions and stakeholders from France's mountain regions.

All those present stated their determination to carry the bid forward to ultimate success in Durban, next July, in full compliance with the values promoted by the Annecy 2018 bid: sporting excellence, authenticity, respect for the environment…

At the press briefing, the appointment of French prefect Pierre Mirabaud as CEO of the bid was announced. This great servant of the State will take up his new duties as from tomorrow morning.

Annecy 2018's new governance will naturally be counting on all the teams who have devoted their time and expertise to the project from the very beginning.
